Somalia has been in war for sometime now. The situation forced many to move out of their own country to other countries one of them being USA.

Recently Tanzanian Journalists had a chance to pay a Somali community in Lewiston a visit and have a talk with them.

Addressing the members of press from Tanzania, the President of African Immigrants Association, Dr. Said Mohamud said, there is a still hope for building a new Somalia.

He said Somali as a country needs a stable government and responsible leaders to rebuild it.

On other hand, Dr. Said said, Somali communities have a chance to use the moments in America to expand their capacities through studying opportunities that will help them in life.

He said, though going to schools make the new Somali siblings to loose focus on their culture, still he hopes for better life for the new generation.

He dreams of having a new Somali one day which will be peaceful to allow her citizens to settle and work for their country’s advancement.

Though many people in many parts of global associate Somali with pirates and other criminal activities, The Lewiston Mayor, Laurent Gilbert, said no serious report on such activities in Somali community in Lewiston so far.

He either said, the Lewiston community is willing to help them to adopt new environment.

However, there is cross cultural miscue arising between the societies. Citing few, he said many are not willing to corporate with Catholic church Agency, probably due to religious indifferences.

He added that rising the new siblings between two different cultures becomes too hard to many Somali parents.

The record shows that 3 somali children graduated from A level last year, which is really encouraging.

Either one of the children managed to secure a sponsorship for further studies at Stanford University.
